On behalf of the Scientific Program Committee, it is my honor and pleasure to invite you to the APAO 2019 Congress in Bangkok, co-hosted by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of Thailand.

The scientific program of APAO Congresses has grown in size and quality throughout the years and the Congress has become one of the most important ophthalmology conferences in the world. With an anticipated number of over 1,000 international experts speaking on all areas of ophthalmology and visual sciences, the APAO 2019 Congress provides an excellent opportunity for delegates to keep abreast with the latest cutting-edge scientific innovations, knowledge, new medications, surgical techniques and technologies.

This Congress also provides a very convenient platform for delegates to meet with old friends, make new ones, and explore collaboration with one other.

As the capital of Thailand, Bangkok is an exciting, vibrant destination with a wide range of tourist attractions and delicious cuisine that make it the perfect gateway to Southeast Asia.

I wish you all a wonderful stay in Bangkok and I look forward to seeing you in March 2019!

With best regards,

Dennis Lam, MD

New Member Society Joining APAO 2019

A total of 3 new APAO member societies will be sending official representatives to the APAO Congress for the first time at APAO 2019 in Bangkok. In this issue, we feature the Asia Pacific Tele-Ophthalmology Society (APTOS), one of APAO’s Associate Member Societies.

Founded in May 2016, APTOS aims to promote communication, exchange and collaboration in tele-ophthalmology. The society’s annual meetings focus on the use of artificial intelligence and big data analytics to improve the field of ophthalmology. Prof. Mingguang He is the president of APTOS and will also represent the society on the APAO Council.

By becoming a member of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology and participating in the Academy’s annual congress, APTOS hopes that we can reach out to more ophthalmologists who share with us the same vision to further the use of tele-ophthalmology to enhance the efficacy and the efficiency of ophthalmic services and to improve eye care delivery in remote areas so that everybody can enjoy the right to sight.

Stay tuned for details about APAO’s other new member societies!
